The best yet! That was generally the response from the golfers who participated in the 9th Annual Chick-fil-A Charity Golf Classic for All God’s Children on August 6th.
A record number of players for our event (148) took to the course at Connemara in Nicholasville and were greeted by a number of special events scattered throughout the course. Highlighting the day was the appearance of 6-time Re/Max World Long Drive Finalist and 2005 International Senior Long Drive Champion David Brinker and PGA pro, and founder/owner of SMT Golf, Trick Shot Artist Mike Tait. Brinker (from St. Louis) and Tait (from Chicago) actually treated the golfers to a pre-tournament clinic on the driving range at Connemara before the event began.
“We’ve always given our participants an excellent event, but this year with the addition of David and Mike we feel like we took it to a new level of excellence in golfing events,” said All God’s Children CEO Karl Smith.
In addition to Brinker and Tait’s eye-opening demonstrations on the course, Mike’s son Shaun brought along one of the days most popular items, a large barrel golf ball launcher (gun) which is powered by a nitrogen canister and can shoot the ball over 330 yards. Actually the day’s best “launch” with that “unique driver” was 331 yards by young Reese Sloan of Nicholasville, son of Mike Sloan.
Golfers also got a good laugh and challenge when they attempted to chip golf balls into a small rubber raft in the middle of the water next to hole # 6 at Connemara. Only one golfer, Tim Condo, was able to get the ball to stay in the boat. This was a 50/50 pot split between the winner and All God’s Children. Mr. Condo graciously returned most of his dollars from the pot back to AGC.
Here were the winners from the 9th annual Chick-fil-A event:
